Is your self-development affected by your financial status?

My answer is not really. While money is like a self-development steroid I won't particularly say it is because a man does not have money that he is in an underdeveloped state.

Let me explain.

Money does make everything easier, including self-development but it is not the deciding factor for self-development.

The reason is self-development is based on internal factors and not external factors.

Where is your mind at?

How do you feel about your body?

Do you think you are already your ideal self or do you need more fine-tuning?

Self-development wholly depends on what you think about yourself. It is only if you see that you need to develop yourself that you will.

Now, most times it is when people find themselves in a different environment, situation or a different status that they will see that they are actually in need of fine-tuning.

For instance when a poor man and his family suddenly become rich and they move from the trenches to a nice neighborhood. Back in the trenches, they are with their fellow trenches people doing "trenches" things.

Everybody is doing the same thing, nobody is judging you or making you look like a fool or laughing at you. The poor man is comfortable.

When he moves to the nice neighborhood, everyone is staring at them. They are turning their noses up at the poor family, judging them, laughing at them. The family becomes uncomfortable.

This discomfort alerts their minds that something isn't right." We need to change how things are.", they start thinking.

Gradually they start actively looking for ways to make themselves better.

What caused the self-development here is not money directly, it is the change they had gone through and their mind realized that they needed self-development.

So while money is great to have when trying to develop yourself it should not be what will decide if you want to start the process or not.

Do you think your financial status is dictating your level of self-development?
